In
the 1970s the BBC 's merchandising of its TV programmes
either consisted of book adaptations of their popular
shows or alternately vinyl albums featuring soundtracks
from these programmes. (This was still the age before
the video recorder, so it was the closest you could get
to reliving some of your favourite programmes!).
After
initial releases of classic Goon Shows, Hancock's Half
Hours, Two Ronnies sketches and Morecambe & Wise, its hardly surprising Dad's Army followed
with a soundtrack LP.
These
two shows were recorded for the radio series in 1973 and
featured most of the original cast members, the album was also complimented with nice cover
artwork of a bomb in Mainwaring's bank vault!
True to most 70s BBC releases of classic radio comedy
the album lacks the signature tune to the series, so these
versions are edited compared to the later BBC Radio Collection
releases.
