Dad's Army and Beyond premiere's at BFI event
The BFI hosted a successful evening to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Dad's Army on December 22 2008. The evening entitled Rarities and Oddities featured many rarely seen clips from the Dad's Army archive including 1980s Barclays adverts with Arthur Lowe and Ian Lavender as Mainwaring and Pike, Christmas Night With The Stars sketches, Clips from the Royal Variety Performance, Interviews with Arnold Ridley and Arthur Lowe and much more. The event ran for 100 minutes, with the evening headed by Frank Williams and Oliver Crocker (pictured above with Ronnie Grainge from the Dad's Army stage show) introducing Dad's Army & Beyond, the recently produced documentary about the life and career of Frank Williams which headlined the evening.
Another familiar face in attendance at the event for classic TV fans was the actor Bernard Holley, who you may remember played PC Newcombe in Z Cars and has starred in many other classic TV shows including Please Sir! and Doctor Who, Bernard is pictured relaxing with Frank after the event. Thanks to Oliver Crocker for providing the information and photographs!
