Dad's Army DVD Releases

Dad's Army DVD releases have formed an interesting pattern since BBC Worldwide issued 3 DVD's on the region 1 format in 2000. These were basic reissues of the first 6 British video releases with no remastering whatsoever. A year later the BBC issued the first Very Best Of compilation on DVD and it was another year before Dad's Army got a volume 2!

By 2004, Dad's Army was to say the least poorly served on the DVD format, however a project lead by DVD producer Ralph Montagu changed this. All surviving episodes were digitally restored by Kevin Davies in series order and were released by BBC worldwide over a three year period. Each DVD also came with special features, in some cases contributions such as rare photographs or clips provided by fans of the series, including myself.

Deagonasti also produced a 27 part work magazine / DVD collection comprising all surviving episodes of the series at this time. If you collected this series (which took a year) you found that you ultimately ended up overtaking the BBC official releases and getting some of the later series episodes before they were available from the series sets.

Finally, on releasing the final BBC DVD in 2007, BBC Worldwide / 2Entertain released a box set comprising all nine series.
